Northwestern University Wildcats

Football season is finally here and the Northwestern Wildcats offer some of the best Division 1 college sports action in the entire Midwest. With 19 teams competing in the Big 10 Conference, you won't want to miss any of the action! The Wildcats play at Ryan Field (1501 Central Street, Evanston). Evanston History Center - Charles Gates Dawes House

The Evanston History Center has opened a new costume exhibit which focuses exclusively on undergarments worn by men, women, and children from the 19th and 20th centuries. Most costume exhibits focus on garments that are meant to be seen by others and present an image of self as chosen by the wearer. The exhibit is open to visitors on Friday and Saturday (1 to 3pm) and Sundays (1 to 4pm). The exhibit is closed on major holidays. Ten Thousand Villages

Ten Thousand Villages will be hosting a Rug Caravan to benefit artisans and promote peace in Pakistan. This very special nine day event features over 300 exquisite hand-knotted, heirloom quality rugs handmade in Pakistan by fairly paid adults. Available in a variety of sizes and colors, the sale of these rugs will benefit more than 750 artisans in over 100 villages. Two seminars introducing Oriental rug making will be open to the public on Friday, September 7 and Wednesday, September 12 (7 pm at the store - free of charge). Put on your thinking caps! Kohl Children's Museum is proud to debut its latest hands-on traveling exhibit filled with brain teasers, interactive puzzles, and mind games. Children from ages 2 to 8 can make educated guesses, experiment, and document their discoveries as they explore infinity mirrors, navigate mazes, and build bridges that seem impossible at first try. A special members-only preview will be held September 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. September and October are two of the Museum's least crowded months and a great time to visit!
