The very first musical based on a Shakespeare play, The Boys From Syracuse is an adaptation of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors. It's time for another festive holiday season in Wilmette! On November 16, the Village Center Merchants will host the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, which starts at 7 pm on the lawn at Village Hall and will feature musical performances by local school groups. Residents are also invited to attend the Village Center Merchants Holiday Open House (Thursday, November 15 from 5-9 pm) featuring special sales, treats, music and raffle prizes. The festivities continue on Saturday, November 17 with Wilmette's annual Holiday Parade. Sponsored by the Wilmette Chamber of Commerce, the parade features marching bands, bagpipers, clowns, mini-cars and (of course) Santa Claus! The parade begins at the CTA parking lot on Fourth St. and proceeds west on Central Avenue to the Village Center at Wilmette Avenue. After the parade, Santa will step off his sleigh to take free Polaroid pictures with children gathered in front of Village Hall. A parade unlike any other, the 5th Annual Reindog Parade is a sight to behold! For four hours only, dogs are allowed into the Garden as cleverly costumed pooches follow Santa and strut their stuff along the parade route. Reindog festivities include registration from 11 am to 12:30 pm and judging by celebrities from noon to 1 pm. The parade steps off at 1:15 pm, and judges award prizes beginning at 2:15 pm. Other activities include a visit and photo opportunity with Santa and demonstrations by dog experts. Reindog Parade advance registration is $14 per dog, from Nov. 1-25.
