There's no better way to network with other women than the Annual North Shore Women's Conference, which takes place from 10 am to 3 pm at the Holiday Inn in Skokie. Bringing together women from dozens of local Chambers of Commerce, the North Shore Women's Conference features a trade show/expo, informative "hot-topic" breakout sessions, and a networking luncheon. This year's keynote speaker is Celebrity Chef and accomplished cookbook author Gale Gand who will share her experiences and how she got her start. Admission to the expo is FREE. Folk music legend, Judy Collins will perform one Chicago area performance, and it's going to be on the North Shore! Collins experienced a meteoric rise to success in the great folk music explosion of the 1960's. In an impressive career spanning over forty years, she has earned a top-ten hit and Grammy Award for Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now. She has been characterized for her eclectic musical taste and interpretation demonstrated by her Billboard success with Stephen Sondheim's Send in the Clowns and the traditional hymn, Amazing Grace. Collins latest album entitled Paradise was released in 2010 and she is also writing a book due out in the fall. Showtime is 8 pm. Tickets are $50 and$60. For more information, please click here.

The Evanston Chamber of Commerce has appointed Eve Doi, IOM, as the Chamber's new Executive Director. She begins work officially on May 16, 2011 and will attend the joint networking event sponsored by the CNSCVB and the Evanston Chamber on May 25 (more information below). Ms. Doi has been serving as Vice President of Communications and Chamber Operations with the Ames Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development in Ames, Iowa, for over seven years.

Since its inception, the Evanston History Center's house walk has embodied the best of history and architecture. This year it features several private homes, including a stunning 1899 Myron Hunt home. This magnificent home was originally built as a coach house in 1892 and converted into a single-family home is 1962. Also on the walk is a fabulous 25-room house, modeled on Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's home in Cambridge, MA, built in 1894. The house walk (which runs from 12 noon to 5 pm) includes interior viewing of all the houses on the walk. Advanced tickets are $35 per person ($40 on the day of the event). In a summer cottage on Chesapeake Bay, Gunner has hatched an unorthodox plan to secure his family's future, but meets with resistance from his wife and son, who have plans of their own. As winter approaches, the three must quickly find common ground and come to an understanding before the tide goes out. This new drama, making its World Premiere, features Northlight favorite John Mahoney along with Rondi Reed (CBS's Mike and Molly) and Thomas J. Whether you like to dance or not, listening to great music and mingling with spirited dancers makes for a fantastic night on the town! Dance Like The Stars, sponsored by the Samaritan Counseling Center, takes place from 6:30 to 10 pm and features the Old Men's Jazz Band, a high-energy 18-piece group that is sure to get you moving! From big band swing traditions to more recent music with a "swing attitude," you'll dance the night away. The evening also includes an auction, raffle prizes, passed appetizers and a cash bar. Debuting this month, Watch Us Grow: Monarch Butterflies explores the lifecycle of the Monarch butterfly, which is the Illinois state insect. During the exhibit, visitors will be able to view the four stages of butterfly development (eggs, caterpillars, pupas and adult butterflies), compare the live specimens with larger-than-life-size models, and explore how animals change and adapt through the metamorphosis process. On Sunday, May 22, come to the West Lot of the center for The Great Jewish Family Festival starting at 3pm. The event will begin with a parade and include rides, games, entertainment and great food. The following weekend on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, from noon to 4pm shoppers can take a stroll with the family down memory lane at the annual Motor Car Classic, taking place on the North Plaza near L.L.Bean and Crate & Barrel.
