A new exhibit, "The Legacy of John Mitchell," opens March 19th at the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian and honors founder John Mitchell (1906-1985) on the 100th anniversary of his birth. Drawing entirely from the initial collection of more than 3,000 items that John and his wife Betty Seabury Mitchell donated to launch the museum in 1977, the exhibit celebrates John Mitchell's vision of a community-based museum focused on Native American art, history and culture. Admission to the new exhibit is included with an entrance donation to the museum. For more information, please call 847-475-1030 or visit www.mitchellmuseum.org.

Governor Rod Blagojevich recently presented a $55.4 billion budget for fiscal year 2007 (which runs from July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007). Health care and education were the big winners. The Governor's proposed Tourism Grant budget is on target with last year's appropriation. The CNSCVB is pleased to see that the effort put forth by the Illinois Council of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (ICCVB) and Visit Illinois on their efforts in maintaining our funding. We also want to thank our legislators for their continued support.
