Help Evanston Become the World's Most Lovable City
Yes, you can help the City of Evanston be named the most lovable city in the world! Evanston's efforts to be the most livable (and lovable) city are being recognized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) through their Earth Hour City Challenge. The challenge encompasses over 40 local governments from countries across the globe, including France, Singapore, South Africa, and Brazil. Evanston was recently announced as one of three finalists to represent the United States in the WWF challenge, along with Cleveland and Seattle! The WWF has launched a "We Love Cities" campaign, which runs through March 27, encouraging people to select their favorite city of the three contending U.S. locations. Do you love Evanston? Then vote today by clicking here. You do not need to live in Evanston to participate.

The Diary of Anne Frank
The Diary of Anne Frank
Now through June 28
Writers Theatre
664 Vernon Avenue, Glencoe
As vital today as when it was first written, Anne Frank's extraordinary diary has become an essential part of how we remember one of the darkest periods of human history. Filled with its young author's luminous spirit - her "boundless desire for all that is beautiful and good" - the diary also illuminates the coming-of-age of a complex, passionate young girl as she falls in love, grows into a woman and struggles to survive with her family amid the chaos of war and religious persecution. Through Soviet Jewish Eyes: Photography, War and the Holocaust
Through Soviet Jewish Eyes: Photography, War and the Holocaust
Now through September 7
Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center
9603 Woods Drive, Skokie
Although World War II is one of the most documented conflicts of the 20th century, western audiences know very little about the Soviet Jewish photojournalists who captured some of the most riveting and powerful images of the war. These wartime photographers were the first liberators to bear witness with cameras to Nazi atrocities, three years before Americans arrived at Buchenwald and Dachau. Photographers, including Evgenii Khaldei, Georgii Zelma, and Dmitrii Baltermants, merged documentary photography with avant-garde sensibilities to create works that had a profound influence on 20th century art and beyond. The Venetian Twins
The Venetian Twins
March 27 - May 9
Piccolo Theatre
600 Main Street, Evanston
The Piccolo Theatre Ensemble explores devised staging and storytelling with The Venetian Twins, a collaborative commedia production that blends Renaissance and mid-century modern delights into a fresh look at a classic Italian art form. Identical twins, raised separately and unaware of each other, arrive in a strange town seeking marriage. One is clever, witty, and self-assured, the other timid, shy, and foolish. Confusion becomes conflict as the twins and townspeople are thrown into chaos when cash, jewels, and declarations of love are delivered to the wrong people. Played with utter conviction and charm by the Piccolo Theatre Ensemble, the return of characters Beatrice, Brighella, Colombina, Dottore, and beloved Arlecchino are joined by others to fast-paced comic effect in this fresh, energetic production that shimmers with wit and surprise.
