Light Opera Works Presents New SeasonLight Opera Works Presents New Season
Evanston's Light Opera Works is celebrating its Gala 25th Anniversary with a fabulous season of musical theater including Broadway's "love makes the world go 'round" musical, Carnival (June 3-12), Franz Lehar's Viennese operatta favorite, The Merry Widow (August 20-28), Darling of the Day, the first staging since it closed on Broadway in 1968, (October 2 -November 6) and the Rodgers and Hammerstein family classic, The Sound of Music (December 26 - January 1, 2006). Outdoor Film Series Begins at Northwestern University
The public is invited to enjoy Northwestern University's Summer Session outdoor movie series, which includes a celebration of the film music of Harold Arlen. The free outdoor films will be projected onto the exterior north wall of the Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston campus. All films will be screened on Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. and movie goers are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets. In the event of rain, the movies will be moved indoors. This summer's exciting movie line-up includes: "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" - June 22; "The Incredibles" - June 29; "Night of the Hunter"- July 6; "Finding Neverland" July 13; "Rebel Without a Cause" - July 20 and the special Harold Arlen series honoring this great American songwriter with 400 songs to his credit. The line up features: "Wizard of Oz" - July 27; "Cabin in the Sky" - Aug. 3; "A Star is Born" - Aug. 10; "Macao" - Aug. 17; "Kismet" - Aug. 24. Northbrook Kicks Off Park Fest
Every Tuesday evening through July 26, the Northbrook Park District will host musical concerts and food service at Village Green (1341 Shermer, Northbrook). This year's musical guests include 215 West, Y'All Come Choir, Banjo Buddies Dixieland Band, Underwater People, Mr. Myers, Public i, White Saddle Band, Bill O'Connell's Skyliners, and Lynn Jordan and the Shivers. Food service will be provided by Sunset Foods, Chicken Charlie's, Lou Malnati's, Ira's, the Northbrook Civic Foundation and Forty-One North. Narra opens at the Hotel Orrington
NARRA, a new restaurant conceived by nationally acclaimed chef Jacky Pluton is now open at the Hotel Orrington in Evanston. The European steak house menu offers delectable choices of meat, seafood and chops and side dishes-some familiar and some unexpected-all reflecting Pluton's signature European flair. The restaurant is named after the sought-after Southeast Asian wood - that amply accent the dining room. Expansive windows overlook an outdoor cafe. After closing for a short period to remedy the effects of smoke damage, The Homestead is once again open and gearing up for one of its busiest summers yet. This summer, The Homestead is the City of Evanston's premier hotel for the Ethnic Arts Festival, Lakeshore Arts Festival and Starlight Concert Series. Its location is two blocks from Dawes Park, the home of the majority of the festivities. The Homestead family would like to thank all those whose extended their support and would like to invite everyone to stop by and visit when in the neighborhood.
