Since 1985, the City of Evanston has hosted its very own Ethnic Arts Festival, where Dawes Park is literally transformed into a global village! Surrounded by the flags of more than 100 nations (honoring the diversity of our planet), attendees experience the colors, sounds and aromas of world cultures. Every continent is represented in song, dance, spoken word, visual arts and food through live music, art and craft work of juried artists and a poetry tent. Attendees can even learn the folkdances of far-away countries, while exploring the intriguing spices and seasonings of new ethnic foods! Admission is free. This month, tens of thousands of competitors and visitors will come to Chicagoland to take part in the Gay Games VII. Northwestern University in Evanston will be hosting the North Village sports competitions which will take place from July 15 - 22. In addition to various sporting events, there will be a host of other exciting activities including an Arts Festival, a spectacular Opening Ceremony (featuring Will & Grace star, Megan Mullally and comedian, Margaret Cho) and a closing night concert with Cindy Lauper. The Homestead and the Girl Scouts: A Perfect PartnershipThe Homestead hotel in Evanston was recently the proud host of an overnight trip for 16 young ladies from local area Girl Scout troops. This great collaboration allowed for a new and different experience to be accessible to girls within their own community of Evanston.

The sleepover entailed a fun and empowering Girl Scout program that included a NIA physical fitness class donated by former Homestead resident, Christine Martins, a pizza party, arts and crafts and breakfast the next morning at The Homestead. "It was a pleasure partnering with the Girl Scouts- Illinois Crossroads Council.", shared Kelly Stepto, Director of Marketing and Sales, "We look forward to a long and successful relationship with the Girl Scouts in the future".
